College admissions scandals have become one of the hottest topics of conversation since President-elect Donald Trump won the election.
While many colleges and universities have already faced scrutiny, the Trump administration has not.
Now, as Trump’s administration moves to reshape the way colleges are judged, colleges and the nation’s public institutions face new challenges.
Below are five college admissions controversies that may be trending on social media.
Who decides which students can receive Pell grants?
When the Pell grant program was created in 2012, the federal government promised to award at least 25% of applicants a grant.
The government estimates that the program has awarded nearly $60 billion to more than 400,000 Americans each year.
The program has also given more than $50 billion to American students who can’t afford to attend college.
Now that the Trump Administration is considering revamping the program, lawmakers are considering new guidelines to limit who can receive a grant and what kinds of institutions the grant may go to. 2.
How many students are eligible for a Pell grant?
The government says it has more than 4 million students who are eligible to receive a Pell Grant, though it has not yet released a list of which students will receive a $25,000 grant.
While the program was initially intended to help students with families in need, it’s also being expanded to include families with children.
The Trump Administration has proposed reducing the number of students eligible for the Pell Grant by 20% over five years.
However, colleges will still have the option of reducing the amount of Pell Grant available for students to meet their financial needs.
How much does a college pay for tuition?
While students may receive a student loan that pays off in the mid-$60,000 range, colleges pay about $5,000 to $10,000 per year for tuition and room and board.
In addition, students pay about half of their tuition for room and other expenses.
The average tuition for students at elite private colleges in 2016 was $16,600.
How does the Pell program work?
The Pell Grant is administered by the federal Department of Education.
The grant is funded through two programs.
The first is the Pell Grants for Individuals (PELIs), which allow students who make $125,000 or less per year to receive grants that will help them pay for college.
The second program is the College Advancing and Retention Equity (CARE) program, which provides grants for low-income students.
While both programs are designed to help low- and moderate-income families pay for school, the Pell and CARE programs have been controversial.
The CARE program was criticized by some conservatives for not making a fair assessment of families with a limited budget.
The College Advances program has been criticized by liberals for the same reason.
What happens if the government decides to eliminate Pell Grants?
After the Trump Presidency, some college students and alumni are concerned that the government may eliminate the Pell grants entirely.
The Pell grants, for example, allow eligible students to receive up to $2,000 for college expenses such as books, room and equipment.
This could potentially affect the finances of thousands of students and their families, said Sarah Brownell, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress.
“It’s a very important program for low and moderate income families,” she said.
The Federal Reserve and Treasury have both proposed eliminating the program as a way to reduce student debt.
But there is also a push by lawmakers to expand the program and lower the tuition rates that students and families can pay for a college education.
In 2017, lawmakers in the House and Senate proposed an expansion of the Pell Program that would provide more money for Pell Grants and cut the minimum annual payment by up to 15% from $5.5 million to $3.5, the maximum amount students can pay in federal aid.
“We are very excited about this proposal,” said Rep. Tim Murphy, D-Pennsylvania, a member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
“Our Pell program is so important to our nation’s youth and our economy, and this is just another step in our efforts to ensure that families are not left behind.”
The Trump administration is considering changing the program to give more financial support to families that cannot afford to pay for their own college.
“The current Pell program has a long history of success for American students,” said Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, in a statement.
“As we continue to work to expand our Pell Program, we are committed to working with Congress and other stakeholders to ensure the future of the program is one that will continue to help our nation meet its needs.”
Will colleges get a break on their tuition payments?
Many colleges and colleges have already agreed to pay their students for college, including colleges that have received federal financial aid.
For the first time, colleges that receive federal aid under the Pell Programs have the opportunity to defer tuition payments to help them repay their loans.
Colleges are also the only institutions eligible for loans to help pay for
