LSU football quarterback Lewis Neal has started the year strong, earning first-team All-SEC honors.
Neal is the first LSU quarterback since 2008 to start the season with first-string experience.
Neal started the season by throwing for 3,913 yards and 27 touchdowns.
He also threw for 6,918 yards and 35 touchdowns.
Neal’s passing yardage total was the third-highest for a freshman quarterback in school history.
He had 5,811 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Neal is the second-leading rusher in school annals with 1,839 yards and nine touchdowns.
A junior from Lake Charles, Louisiana, Neal was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year after leading LSU to a national championship in 2016.
Neal set the school record for rushing yards in a season with 1 and 3,000 yards, but he also set school records for passing yards in the season and rushing touchdowns.LSU was led by a dominant offense in 2017, and Neal was an integral part of the offense.
Neal threw for 3.5 yards per carry, which was the second best mark in school History.
Neal also set the LSU record for most passing yards by a freshman in a game with 3,087.
Neal earned SEC Offensive Freshman of the Week honors for his performance in the Sugar Bowl, which LSU lost to Alabama.
Neal was also a key player for the Tigers’ defense, recording 16 tackles and a forced fumble.
Neal finished the season strong, recording 1,000-yard passing and 3 touchdowns.
He is the seventh LSU quarterback to reach 2,000 career passing yards and 2,200 rushing yards.
Neal has the third highest career passing touchdown percentage (68.5).
